2012 national champions Matthew Sellwood and Daniele Selmi, of Oxford Brookes University, win the 13th Commonwealth Moot held in South Africa.

Matthew Sellwood and Daniele Selmi, the team from Oxford Brookes University, and winners of the 2012 ESU – Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition, have won the thirteenth Commonwealth Moot, which was held in Cape Town, South Africa, 14th April to 18th April 2013.

The Commonwealth Moot is an initiative of the Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA). It is an ‘invitation-only’ Moot, being limited to representative teams from regions of the Commonwealth only. The regions are: North America, United Kingdom, the Caribbean, South Asia (India), South Asia (Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka), South East Asia, Western Africa , Eastern Africa, Southern Africa, Australasia (Australia and New Zealand send separate teams), and the South Pacific.

The winners of the ESU – Essex Court Chambers competition are always selected to represent the UK.

The Commonwealth competition now takes place every two years and teams compete for the ‘Commonwealth Shield’.
